On 6 June 2024, three of our Associates - Ana Barbir and Gerald Watt from the London office, and Kenny Santos from the Kenilworth office - travelled to Darley Moor, Derbyshire to attend The Institute of Traffic Accident Investigators (ITAI) Crash Test and Research Day.
They participated in lectures and observed numerous live crash tests, with vehicles travelling at speeds ranging from 5 to 80 mph in 14 different scenarios. These scenarios included passenger cars, motorcycles, a telegraph pole, a lattice mast, and a steel cabinet. High-speed collisions were conducted using remotely controlled vehicles, while low-speed crashes involved volunteer drivers. Extensive data was collected, including acceleration measurements and multi-angle videos of all vehicles.
We have suggested that volunteers be equipped with instruments next year to gather additional data on the accelerations and movements experienced by the occupants.
Our growing traffic group at Burgoynes offers expertise in a range of traffic cases, including:
- collision reconstructions and modelling
- vehicle inspections
- component failures
- dashcam and CCTV analysis
- occupant kinematics
- telematics
- rollover events
- seatbelt analysis
- motorcycle and bicycle helmets
- pedestrian incidents
- child car seats
