We are pleased to share that Dr Chris Foster, a Consultant here at Burgoynes, was privileged to be invited to speak at the PICG Conference 2026 in London on 7 May, joining fellow contributors Felicity Ingram from Kennedys and Paul Redington from Zurich on what proved to be a memorable and thought-provoking session.

Together, the panel guided over 400 delegates through the significant impact of Buncefield explosion in 2005 on the insurance industry — revisiting the scientific investigation into its causes and effects, demonstrating the efficiency and effectiveness of adjusting and presenting numerous liability claims through the agency of a group of specialists known as the “Buncefield Neighbouring Properties Insurance Group” (BUNPIG) and the complex litigation that followed. For Chris, it was a nostalgic experience, bringing back memories of a defining chapter in the industry's history.

It was an honour to have shared the event with other so may eminent practitioners from around the globe who discussed lessons learnt from a range of natural disasters leading to the development of valuable predictive tools when planning for and mitigating against their effects.

The conference also provided a chance for Chris to reconnect with longstanding colleagues and friends from the claims and legal professions — many of whom go back years. It is always a pleasure to see familiar faces and that makes events like this so special.
