During the last few weeks, Keith Benjamin, a Partner at our Basingstoke office, has provided presentations on thatch fires at The Insurance Institute of Southampton and at the Fareham office of Sedgwick International UK.

Keith’s presentations included a review of his statistical analysis of Burgoynes’ investigations of thatch fires, which highlighted a correlation between wood-burning stoves, chimney height and the time between lighting the stove and the discovery of a fire at the roof.  He also reviewed the recent research undertaken by the Fire Protection Association into chimney systems and the potential mechanisms of thatch ignition.  Keith illustrated the talk with many photographs taken during his numerous scene inspections of fire damaged thatch properties.
