Experience:

Thomas studied Chemistry and Physics at the University of Bielefeld in Germany, before receiving his MPhil and PhD in Organic Chemistry at the University of Cambridge. He is a Gates Cambridge Alumnus Scholar, a Fellow of the German National Merit Foundation (Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes) and a Fellow of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

Since joining Burgoynes in 2005, Thomas has investigated fires and explosions involving domestic and commercial buildings, underground services, industrial premises, and chemical plants, both in the UK and abroad. He has also conducted investigations into incidents of burglary, electrical equipment failure, process plant failure and chemical contamination, and has advised clients on the risks arising from the reactions of hazardous chemicals and petroleum products. Thomas was instructed to provide scientific advice in the largest ever group action brought before the British Courts, a claim on behalf of 30000 individuals against a multinational firm of commodity brokers following the disposal of waste in the Ivory Coast (Motto & Others v Trafigura).

Thomas is native in German and has a working knowledge of Italian.
