Steve Hammond 1957 - 2021

Posted on Monday, 12 April 2021

It is with immense sadness that Burgoynes has to announce the untimely passing of Steve Hammond, who died suddenly on 31 March 2021.

Following 11 years working at the British Gas Midlands Research Station in Solihull, Steve joined Burgoynes’ Coventry (now Kenilworth) office in 1989, and became a Partner in 1996.  He opened the Manchester office in 1997 and oversaw its growth into the established office it is today.  As a mark of the esteem in which he was held by his peers, Steve was elected to and served as the Chair of the LLP between 2013 and 2016, before retiring as a Partner in 2018, following which he continued to work as a Consultant to the LLP.

In addition to his core fire investigation work, Steve was highly regarded in his specialist areas of gas explosion and carbon monoxide incident investigations, which took him across the country and around the world.  His knowledge, enthusiasm, and pleasant manner made him a popular choice with clients and colleagues alike.  He contributed to the wider insurance investigation community by means of delivering goodwill training lectures to clients and local Fire Service investigation teams, with many remarking on him being a mentor in their development.  Indeed, this was a natural extension to the training, development and mentoring of many colleagues during his 32 year career at Burgoynes.

Steve will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and our thoughts go out to his wife Judith, and their children, Matthew and Charlotte.  We have lost a wonderful friend.
