Experience:

Phil began his career in hands-on engineering environments, later completing a PhD and becoming a lecturer in mechanical engineering at Newcastle University. During this time, he devised and led research projects, presented at conferences, gave advice to national/international orthopaedic manufacturers, supervised PhD students, was granted a patent, and published his work in engineering journals.

Since joining Burgoynes, Phil has carried out numerous investigations of mechanical engineering related incidents across domestic, industrial, and commercial settings, in addition to fire investigations. Examples of his instructions include escapes of water and oil, personal injury incidents, slip-resistance assessments, storm and flood damage, drainage failures, damaged pipework, pressure vessel ruptures, and failures of fire-suppression systems. Phil has provided expert opinion to loss adjusters, insurers, and solicitors in anticipation of litigation. He is experienced in preparing CPR 35-compliant reports.
