Experience:
While completing a master’s degree in chemistry Jonny spent a year with Unilever’s R&D deodorants team in Leeds where he researched ways in which existing formulations may be developed to reduce malodour. Continuing in the product formulation field, Jonny spent two years working as a field chemist for an independent chemical manufacturer where he travelled to sites across the UK advising clients on a range of issues from cleaning deep fat fryers to removing heavy metal stains during the industrial washing of prison blankets.
During his PhD with the Edinburgh Fire Research Centre, Jonny developed a methodology to assess pyrolysis and combustion products in fire effluent. Alongside this research he evaluated the repeatability of burning upholstered chairs and assessed the impact of oak charring on the development of whisky congeners, publishing several peer-reviewed papers.
Jonny joined Burgoynes in 2025 and specialises in the investigation of fire and explosions.
