Hilary joined the Forensic Science Service in 1987. During her time there she worked on cases involving particulate recovery (e.g. paint and glass), marks (e.g. footwear and tools) and the examination of fire debris. She also undertook cases involving the identification and quantification of illicit drugs and the comparison of packaging materials. Hilary also attended many scenes of suspected arson and scenes of illicit drug production, particularly cannabis cultivation.
Following time raising a family, Hilary joined Burgoynes in 2014 as an Associate and since then has undertaken investigations into the causes of numerous fires in both domestic and commercial settings. These have involved a range of causes including electrical faults, self-heating, deliberate ignition and accidental human agency.
