Experience:

David was awarded a first-class honours degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from Salford University in 1985. He then spent 16 years working for 2 major international chemical companies, Solvay and Monsanto, focusing on the design, installation and maintenance of process control instrumentation and electrical power distribution systems. David joined Burgoynes in 1992 as a Consulting Engineer and became a Partner in July 1999.

David has conducted over 1300 investigations, mainly in the UK but also overseas in the US, West Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Ireland and Continental Europe. He has investigated fires and explosions at residential and commercial buildings, on ships and luxury yachts, and in motor vehicles. He has also investigated the failure of electrical and electronic equipment, and incidents where people have been electrocuted or suffered serious injury due to electric shocks. Many of his investigations have been high profile and several have involved losses of tens of millions of pounds.

While working for Burgoynes, David has given expert oral testimony in two Coroner’s Courts, three County Courts and the High Court in the UK, as well as in Castlebar High Court in the Republic of Ireland. He has also lectured on various aspects of fire investigation to insurance companies, loss adjusters, Fire Service personnel and to a regional meeting of the Institution of Electrical Engineers.
