Prior to joining Burgoynes Paul worked for a variety of independent materials testing laboratories and consultancies, undertaking the investigation of a wide range of metallic material failures in industries such as power generation, aerospace, automotive and rail. This required travel to various sites within the UK and Europe.
During his career Paul has undertaken analyses of over 400 failures, involving:
- Railway vehicle structures, oil industry valve bodies, industrial water pipe systems, aircraft structural and engine components, nuclear reactor components, water tanks, street furniture and domestic goods;
- Material and manufacturing defects, such as from poor material quality, welding, machining and laser cutting;
- Fatigue and overload failures; and
- Corrosion: stress corrosion cracking, pitting, corrosion fatigue, high temperature oxidation.
Since joining Burgoynes in 2017, Paul has been involved in the investigation of incidents relating to metallurgy and materials engineering.
