In 1985, Pat joined the Forensic Science Service, where she worked on cases involving flammable liquid analysis, assessment of clothing for singeing damage, footwear marks, paint, glass and blood alcohol analysis. In particular, between 1997 and 2008, Pat worked at the Fire Investigation Unit of the FSS London laboratory, where she investigated over 500 incidents involving fires and explosions, including fatal fires.
Pat joined Burgoynes in 2008 as an Associate and has undertaken investigations into the causes of over 350 fires and explosions caused by a range of ignition sources, including electrical faults, self-heating, deliberate ignition, commercial cooking, hot work, industrial processes or accidental human acts. She has provided evidence to counsel as required. In addition, Pat has experience in carrying out smoke contamination assessments.
She has given evidence in Crown, Magistrates’ and Coroners’ Courts on many occasions.
