Chris studied Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College, London, graduating in 1986. He then worked in the construction industry, specialising in mechanical plant design and installation in oil refineries and chemical manufacturing facilities in the UK and the Netherlands. He relocated to Hong Kong in 1990 and worked for Mobil Oil in a bulk fuel storage and handling facility. He attained Chartered status with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in 1991. On returning to the UK, Chris worked in the renewable energy sector, gaining extensive technical and commercial experience in both wind and solar power.
He joined Burgoynes in 2014 and has investigated incidents involving escapes of water and personal injury.
Chris also has an interest in helping younger engineers achieve Chartered status and has experience of mentoring people through this process.
